Mik Prajapati opened the Mail and Stamp Center at Bouquet and Plum canyon roads one month before the City closed the road outside his door. He told The Signal in June that he hadn't known the closure was coming until residents started passing the word around late last year. Eight months in, the shop is still on the corner. So are a pizzeria that has been there for 35 years, a Thai kitchen, a sushi spot, a Mexican bar and grill, a sports bar, and a few salons.
The corner's customers didn't drift off on their own. The road closure took away the drivers who used to come down the canyon from the north, and that leaves the people who live on the Saugus side of the detour as the main customers. For the next three months, those neighbors matter more to the corner than they have in decades.
Which Customers the Closure Actually Took
Bouquet Canyon Road has been closed since February 13, 2026. The City lists the closed stretch as Plum Canyon Road to David Way, with detours on Haskell Canyon Road and Copper Hill Drive. In February, The Signal described the full closure as running from Benz Road to David Way. It added that a gate on Benz Road would keep through traffic out and let residents of the affected area pass. Residents inside that area open the gate with vehicle headlamp tags, which they request from the City by showing registration tied to an address in the zone.
Drivers heading south out of the canyon now have no direct way to the corner. The Benz Road gate also blocks easy access for many local customers, including people coming from Copper Hill. In a letter to customers, Vincenzo's Pizza said that without Benz Road, customers from the north have to drive all the way to Haskell. The restaurant named Agua Dulce and Acton as places its regulars come from.
The losses are steep. At a June City Council meeting, Mona Huckabee, who owns Renovaré Salon in Bouquet Plaza, said some businesses had lost 50 percent of their income in four months, and some 80 or 90 percent. She also told the council, "We cannot advertise our way out of a road closure." LeeAnn Willis, who runs Vincenzo's with her husband, said the lunch crowd had been hit hardest.
What's on the Corner Right Now
The corner has two centers. Bouquet Plaza is at 28200 Bouquet Canyon Road, and Plum Commerce Center is at 28072 Bouquet Canyon Road. Here is what we could confirm as of early October:
- Vincenzo's Pizza, at the corner of Plum and Bouquet canyon roads, has been at this spot for 35 years. In late July, Willis said the restaurant might hold on at its current location a little longer, thanks to the support that followed its customer email. She also said, "this may be our last few months." That was the most recent public update we found.
- Thai Basil lists 28072 Bouquet Canyon Road on its website, with online ordering and takeout hours.
- La Cocina Bar & Grill lists its Bouquet location at 28076 Bouquet Canyon Road, with posted hours.
- Twisted Kazuyo lists 28112 Bouquet Canyon Road, with online ordering and a weekly schedule.
- Marci's, at 28200 Bouquet Canyon Road, was promoting a live band and a Dodgers watch party for October 2 and 3.
- Bella Salon takes bookings at its Bouquet Canyon address.
- Renovaré Salon is in Bouquet Plaza.
- Mail and Stamp Center is still run by Prajapati, last reported in July.
KHTS's June coverage also listed Vault Vapes and a 7-Eleven among the businesses feeling the closure. The restaurant hours above come from each business's own website, so call before you make a dinner plan around them.
Why the Road Can't Simply Reopen Early
Most people treat the detour as a road-building project. The developer's project site says that is only half the reason. The other half is a Los Angeles County Flood Control channel. Lennar's plan widens it from about 40 feet to 120 feet and deepens it from about 6 feet to 17 feet. Hillside soil cut away for the new road alignment is going into the old floodplain and raising the ground about 45 feet. That means the channel has to grow to carry storm flows. Reaching its full width requires removing the existing Bouquet Canyon bridge, and that work can't happen while traffic is using the road.
The larger project includes a straighter Bouquet Canyon Road between Plum Canyon and Vasquez Canyon roads, with raised medians, sidewalks, and trails, plus up to 375 for-sale homes. In June, The Signal noted that the new residents should eventually become customers for the same corner that is struggling now. Getting there means making it through the gap.
What the City Has Put on the Table
The help comes in two forms. One depends on residents. The other depends on paperwork.
Open Rewards started on July 23, 2026, and pays 5 percent cash back on purchases at businesses in Plum Commerce Center and Bouquet Plaza. Here is how it works:
- Download the Open Rewards app. Link a credit or debit card, or skip that and upload a photo of your receipt. Rewards usually show up within 48 hours.
- Earn 5 percent back, up to $5 per transaction and $100 per person in total, while program funds last.
- Spend your rewards at a participating business within three months, or they expire.
On September 17, the program expanded to Main Street in Old Town Newhall. The two Saugus centers now share the same pool of funds with a busier district. The City hasn't published an end date, so cash back earned at a Saugus dinner this month is safer than cash back you plan to earn later.
The Bouquet Canyon Business Assistance Grant Program passed the City Council unanimously in September with $640,000. About $590,000 is set aside for grants, and $50,000 pays a third-party administrator. The grants can cover up to 50 percent of rent, utilities, insurance, and payroll for six months, capped at $35,000 per business. They don't repay lost revenue. City staff counted 38 commercial units and about 33 businesses in the affected corridors. If you split $590,000 evenly across 33 businesses, each would get roughly $17,900, about half the cap. Actual awards will depend on each applicant's eligibility and records.
The Dates Between Now and Reopening
Applications open Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. and close Thursday, November 5, at 11:59 p.m. The City reviews them as they come in and plans to pay out in November and December. The closure started February 13 and was estimated at about 11 months. Counted forward, that lands around mid-January 2027. Neither the City nor the developer has published that as a reopening date, and neither has posted a revised one.
The grant checks cover six months of fixed costs and arrive about a month or two before the estimated reopening. That only works if the reopening doesn't slip. John Meshriky, who opened a convenience store at the intersection, said in July that he'd been told the work is on schedule.
"Thirty-five years, and this may be our last few months." LeeAnn Willis of Vincenzo's Pizza, speaking to The Signal in July
A Second Closure Farther Up the Canyon
If you were planning a pumpkin patch trip this month, there's a second, separate closure to know about. The Bouquet Fire started on October 3 near Bouquet Canyon Road and Quarry Road. On October 4, The Signal reported that Bouquet Canyon Road was closed from Spunky Canyon Road to Vasquez Canyon Road. Gilchrist Farm usually runs its Harvest Festival & Pumpkin Patch from September 26 through November 1. Its October 4 update says the farm is closed and will stay closed until Bouquet Canyon reopens at Vasquez. No reopening estimate had been published as of October 4. CAL FIRE's incident page and the farm's own site are the places to check before you drive out.
That leaves the corner at Plum Canyon as the open stretch of Bouquet Canyon Road this October. Dinner at Thai Basil, a pie from Vincenzo's, or a Dodgers game at Marci's all count toward the same cash back, and all of it happens before the January estimate is tested.
If the detour has you wondering how the realignment and the new homes going up along Bouquet Canyon might affect your own street, Homes With Alin is following the project as closely as the businesses on that corner are. Start with an instant home valuation, then reach out and we'll walk through what the new road could change for your property.
